Stuart's fascination with Singapore began in 2000 when she moved to the island with her family for three years. During her time in Singapore, she immersed herself in exploring the history and different cultures of the island, which inspired her to create the Harriet Gordon Mysteries.
The idea for the Harriet Gordon Mysteries was born in the microfiche room of Singapore's National Library when Stuart came across an advertisement in a 1905 edition of the Straits Times. The advertisement read, "An Englishwoman undertakes Typing and Shorthand… She guarantees… absolute secrecy!" This advertisement sparked Stuart's imagination, and she created the first Harriet Gordon Mystery, "Singapore Sapphire," which was published in 2019. The series has since been followed by "Revenge in Rubies" and "Evil in Emerald," and the final episode in Harriet's adventures, "Terror in Topaz," will be published in 2023.
In addition to her love for writing, Stuart has enjoyed a varied career as a lawyer in a wide range of fields, including the military and as a senior executive in the fire services. Her experiences in these fields have undoubtedly contributed to her ability to write compelling and engaging stories. Furthermore, Stuart also writes historical fiction under the name Alison Stuart.
