Mukherjee was born in India and grew up in the west of Scotland. His love for crime fiction began at the age of fifteen when a friend recommended the book "Gorky Park" to him. This early interest in the genre would later inspire him to write his own crime novels, leading to the creation of the successful Wyndham & Banerjee series. Mukherjee currently resides in London with his wife and two sons.
