Adam Brookes is a British author, well-known for his spy thriller novels. He was born in Canada but was raised in Oxfordshire, England. From a young age, Brookes developed an interest in the Chinese language and culture, which led him to study Chinese at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London.
After completing his studies, Brookes embarked on a career in journalism. He began by working briefly in magazines before joining the BBC as a 'copytaster,' a job that no longer exists. His career at the BBC progressed, and he became a radio producer at the BBC World Service. Eventually, Brookes became a foreign correspondent, a role that took him to various parts of the world, including Indonesia, China, and the United States, where he currently resides.
Throughout his career as a journalist, Brookes reported from around 30 countries for BBC television and radio. His first novel, "Night Heron," gained significant recognition and was well received by critics and readers alike. Brookes continues to write and has recently published a narrative non-fiction account of the journey taken by China's imperial art collections during the Second World War, titled "Fragile Cargo: The Wartime Race to Save the Treasures of China's Forbidden City." The book is currently available in the UK and will be published in the USA in February 2023.
