Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani is a highly regarded Nigerian author, renowned for her cultural, contemporary literature and fiction stories. She is a versatile writer who has also made a name for herself as a humorist, journalist, and essayist. Nwaubani was born in 1976 in Enugu, Nigeria, and spent her formative years in Umauahia, Abia State, which is the hometown of her father. She is from the Igbo community and developed a love for storytelling at a young age. When Nwaubani was ten, she moved to Federal Girls College Owerri to begin her boarding school education.
Nwaubani's writing career took off after she graduated from Ibadan University with a degree in Psychology. Her debut novel, I Do Not Come to You by Chance, was an instant success and won numerous awards. The book won the Commonwealth Writer's Prize in the category of the Best First Novel in Africa in 2010, making Nwaubani the first contemporary African writer on the global stage to have got an international book deal while still living in her home country. The book is also the recipient of the Betty Trask award and has been listed as one of the top books of 2009 by Washington Post. Nwaubani's writing is known for its wit, humor, and cultural significance, making her one of Nigeria's most celebrated authors.
