Adrian Miller

Adrian Miller is a history and non-fiction author, food writer, barbeque judge, and attorney based in Denver, Colorado. His passion for food shines through in his writing, often including delicious recipes for readers to try at home. Miller has received recognition for his work, with his debut novel, Soul Food: The Surprising Story of an American Cuisine, One Plate at a Time, earning him a James Beard Foundation award in 2014.

In addition to his writing, Miller is the executive director of the Colorado Council of Churches, making him the first African American and the first layperson to hold that position. Prior to this role, he worked in politics, serving as a special assistant to President Bill Clinton and a senior policy analyst for Colorado governor Bill Ritter Jr.. Miller has also been an active community member, sitting on the board of the Southern Foodways Alliance.

Miller's work has been well-received, with his first book winning the James Beard Foundation Award for Scholarship and Reference in 2014. His second book, The President's Kitchen Cabinet: The Story of the African Americans Who Have Fed Our First Families, from the Washingtons to the Obamas, was published on President's Day, 2017. Through his writing and community involvement, Miller continues to make important contributions to the world of food and history.
