Alan Brennert is an accomplished American fiction author, screenwriter, and television producer. Born in 1954, Brennert began his career as a screenwriter in 1978, contributing to the popular Wonder Woman series. He later worked as an editor and wrote scripts for The Buck Rogers Series, which was aired on NBC.
Brennert is best known for his historical novels, including Palisades Park, Honolulu, and Moloka'i. Moloka'i, published in 2006, was a huge success and won the 2006 Bookies Award for the Book Club Book of the Year. The novel, which explores the life of a Hawaiian girl with leprosy, has sold over 600,000 copies since its publication and was also a One Book, One San Diego selection in 2012.
In addition to his success as a novelist, Brennert has had a successful career in television. He has won an Emmy Award and a People's Choice Award for his work as a writer-producer on the television series L.A. Law. His short story "Ma Qui" was also honored with a Nebula Award. Brennert's latest novel, Daughter of Moloka'i, will be published by St. Martin's Press on February 19, 2019. The novel tells the story of Rachel Kalama's daughter Ruth and her eventual meeting with her birth mother, Rachel, and will explore the women's 22-year relationship.
