Alex Michaelides is a successful author and screenwriter. He was born in Cyprus in 1977 to an English mother and a Greek father, and his upbringing in Cyprus was heavily influenced by Greek mythology, particularly the work of Euripides. This early exposure to Greek mythology would later become a source of inspiration for his writing.
Michaelides studied English literature at Cambridge University and later went on to earn a Master of Arts degree in screenwriting from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. His background in both literature and screenwriting has equipped him with a unique set of skills that he has put to use in his work.
Michaelides' debut novel, The Silent Patient, was a massive success. It debuted at number one on the New York Times bestseller list and has sold more than 6.5 million copies worldwide. The rights to the novel have been sold in a record-breaking 51 countries, and it has been optioned for film by Plan B. Michaelides' second novel, The Maidens, was also a New York Times bestseller and has been optioned for television by Miramax Television and Stone Village.
In addition to his work as a novelist, Michaelides is also an accomplished screenwriter. He wrote the film The Devil You Know, which starred Rosamund Pike. Michaelides currently resides in London.
