She is best recognized for the Ellie Kent Mysteries, a series featuring an American protagonist who marries an English vicar and settles in a Cotswold village. The first book in the series, "Under an English Heaven," won the 2016 Mystery & Mayhem Grand Prize for best mystery. Its sequels, "What Child Is This?" and "In the Life Ever After," have garnered a devoted readership, with the second installment becoming a seasonal favorite.

Boatwright's writing draws from her experiences as an expatriate in England, blending her appreciation for English culture, literature, and history with engaging mysteries. She has also authored "Sea, Sky, Islands," a chapbook of stories set in the San Juan Islands, and her debut children’s book, "Mrs. Potts Finds Thanksgiving," released in 2022.

Currently residing in the Pacific Northwest, Boatwright remains active in the literary community as a member of Sisters in Crime, Mystery Writers of America, and PEN America.
