Alice Sebold is a renowned American author, best known for her bestselling book "The Lovely Bones." Sebold was born in 1963 and grew up in a number of places in the United States, including Pennsylvania, Delaware, and California. She later attended Syracuse University, where she studied writing and English.
Sebold's writing career took off in 1999 with the publication of her memoir "Lucky," which chronicles her experience as a rape survivor while she was a student at Syracuse University. The book received widespread critical acclaim and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. However, it was "The Lovely Bones," published in 2002, that brought Sebold to the attention of a wider audience. The novel, which tells the story of a young girl who is raped and murdered and watches from heaven as her family grapples with their grief, was an immediate bestseller and went on to sell millions of copies worldwide. It was also adapted into a major motion picture in 2009.
In addition to "The Lovely Bones" and "Lucky," Sebold is also the author of the novel "The Almost Moon," which was published in 2007. Her work has been translated into more than fifty languages and has appeared in a number of prominent publications, including The New York Times and The Guardian. Sebold is also an advocate for survivors of sexual assault and is a member of the National Leadership Council for RAINN.org (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network). She currently resides in California.
