Alice Walker

Alice Walker is a highly respected and celebrated American author, poet, novelist, activist, and essay and story writer. She is considered to be one of the United States' preeminent writers, having won numerous awards for her work that addresses issues of racism, sexism, injustice, inequality, and poverty.

Born in 1944, Walker grew up in rural Georgia and went on to attend Spelman College and Sarah Lawrence College.
