Alma Katsu is a renowned American author, best known for her work in adult fiction, particularly her popular Taker Trilogy. The first book of the trilogy, The Taker, was published in 2011 and quickly gained critical acclaim. It was selected as one of the American Library Association’s ten best debut novels of the year and has since been translated into more than twelve languages.\n \nBefore becoming an author, Katsu spent three decades working for the Federal government in various departments, including foreign policy and intelligence. She was a technology expert and has since become a senior policy analyst at the RAND Corporation. Katsu is currently living in a suburb of Washington D.C. with her musician husband, Bruce Katsu.\n \nIn addition to her work as an author and policy analyst, Katsu also contributes to the Huffington Post and writes reviews for Publishers Weekly. She has written several highly acclaimed novels, including The Deep, a reimagining of the sinking of the Titanic, and The Hunger, a reimagining of the Donner Party's tragic journey. The Hunger was nominated for the Stoker and Locus awards and was included in NPR's 100 favorite horror stories.
Katsu's work is highly regarded in the literary world, with Stephen King praising her writing as "hard to put down" and "not recommended reading after dark." The New York Times has described her writing as "supernatural suspense at its finest," and she has been twice nominated for the Stoker Award for Best Novel and Locus Magazine for Best Horror Novel.
Katsu's debut novel, The Taker, was selected by Booklist as one of the top 10 debut novels of 2011. She is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins Writing Program and Brandeis University, where she studied with novelist John Irving, and an alumni of the Squaw Valley Writers Conference. In addition to her work as an author, she has held various positions in the Federal government and RAND, where she currently works as a consultant on emerging technology.
