Amanda Peters

Amanda Peters is a writer of Mi’kmaw and European settler ancestry whose work explores themes of identity, heritage, and belonging. Her fiction and essays have appeared in notable literary journals including the Antigonish Review, Grain Magazine, The Alaska Quarterly Review, and the Dalhousie Review. Peters received the 2021 Indigenous Voices Award for unpublished prose and was selected for the Writers Trust Rising Stars program, highlighting her emerging literary talent.

A native of Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley, Peters draws upon her mixed-race heritage to inform her storytelling. She holds a certificate in creative writing from the University of Toronto and earned an MFA from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe. As an Associate Professor in the Department of English and Theatre at Acadia University, Peters balances her academic career with her writing. She continues to reside in the Annapolis Valley, where she lives with her two pets, Holly and Pook.
