Ananda Lima is a poet, translator, and fiction writer known for her debut fiction collection, "Craft: Stories I Wrote for the Devil" (Tor Books, 2024), which received starred reviews from Kirkus, Publishers Weekly, and Library Journal. The book was longlisted for the ALA Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction and praised by The New York Times as "a remarkable debut that announces the arrival of a towering talent in speculative fiction." Lima is also the author of the poetry collection "Mother/land" (Black Lawrence Press, 2021), winner of the Hudson Prize, with work featured in publications such as American Poetry Review, Kenyon Review, and Electric Literature.
Originally from Brasília, Brazil, Lima holds an MA in Linguistics from UCLA and an MFA in Creative Writing from Rutgers University-Newark. Her career spans roles as a Contributing Editor at Poets & Writers and Program Curator at StoryStudio Chicago, alongside mentoring for the NYFA Immigrant Artist Program. As the inaugural Latinx-in-Publishing WIP Fellow sponsored by Macmillan Publishers, she has established herself as a significant voice in contemporary literature, blending speculative fiction with poetic lyricism. Lima divides her time between Chicago and New York.
