Andrea Carter is a mystery author, best known for her Inishowen mystery series. Born in the United Kingdom, Carter is a law graduate and a qualified solicitor. She spent a few years living and working in the Inishowen Peninsula, which would later become the setting for her debut series. In 2005, Carter transferred to the Bar and moved to Dublin to practice as a barrister. It was then that she decided to focus her efforts on writing crime stories.
Carter holds a University College Dublin MFA in creative writing. Her decision to pursue a career in writing was influenced by her experiences living in the Inishowen Peninsula, where she ran the most northerly solicitors’ practice in the country. The close-knit community and picturesque landscape of the peninsula provided the perfect backdrop for her mystery novels.
Carter grew up in Ballyfin, Co. Laois, and studied law at Trinity College Dublin. After moving to the Inishowen peninsula in Co. Donegal and working as a solicitor, she returned to Dublin in 2006 to work as a barrister. Her books, including "The Well of Ice" and "Murder at Greysbridge," have received critical acclaim. The Sunday Times has praised Carter's ability to re-create the cloistered, gossipy confines of a small Irish village, drawing comparisons to the mannered drawing room society of an Agatha Christie mystery. Her books are published by Little, Brown in the UK, Goldmann Verlag in Germany, Oceanview in the US, and will be adapted for television next summer.
