Andrea L. Rogers is a children's and historical fiction author, who is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. She was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and attended the Institute of American Indian and Alaskan Arts, where she received her MFA in creative writing. Currently, Rogers is furthering her education as a Ph.D. student in English at the University of Arkansas, while also spending time in Fort Worth, Texas, with her family.
Rogers has received recognition for her writing, including her book "Mary and the Trail of Tears: A Cherokee Removal Survival Story," which was named an NPR Best Book of 2020 by NPR and American Indians in Children's Literature. She is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and serves on the Board of the Fort Worth Public Library.
In addition to her work for children, Rogers also writes fiction and nonfiction for adults. Her essays "Lifting While She Climbs" and "My Oklahoma History" can be found in the publications "Allies from Dk Publishing" and "You Too? 25 Voices Share Their #MeToo Stories from Ink Yard Press," respectively. Her short story "The Ballad of Maggie Wilson" was featured in the award-winning anthology "Ancestor Approved: Intertribal Stories for Kids," published by Heartdrum/Harper Collins.
Rogers has several upcoming projects, including the picture books "When We Gather/Alisdayvdi: A Cherokee Tribal Feast," illustrated by Madelyn Goodnight, to be published by Heartdrum in 2024, and "Chooch Helped," to be published by Levine Querido. Her first book, "Mary and the Trail of Tears: A Cherokee Removal Survival Story," was published by Capstone in 2020 and received critical acclaim. Her YA Horror book, "Man Made Monsters," is set to be released by Levine Querido on October 4th. All of Rogers' work is copyrighted and all rights are reserved.
