Angie Sage is a distinguished British author, best known for her young adult (YA) fantasy series, Septimus Heap, and her children's book series, Araminta Spookie (sometimes spelled Araminta Spook). Sage was born on June 19th, 1952, and raised in Thames Valley, London, and Kent. She is the daughter of a renowned publisher who would often bring home blank books for her to fill with stories and illustrations. This early exposure to the world of publishing significantly influenced Sage's career path.
As a child, Sage had a strong affinity for writing stories and creating accompanying illustrations, a passion that would eventually shape her professional life. Initially, Sage considered studying medicine, but she ultimately decided to pursue her creative interests and enrolled at the Art School in Leicester, England, where she specialized in Graphic Design and Illustration. Following her graduation, Sage began illustrating books and later ventured into writing as well.
Angie Sage's professional writing career took off with the publication of her first novel, Septimus Heap: Magyk, which served as the inaugural book in the Septimus Heap series. The series, comprised of seven titles, has garnered international acclaim and established Sage as a prominent figure in the fantasy genre. In addition to the Septimus Heap series, Sage is the author of the Todhunter Moon series, as well as the Magykal Papers, an additional book that provides further insights into the world of Septimus Heap.
Furthermore, Sage has contributed her writing and illustration talents to various children's books, including toddler books and chapter books. She has also taken over as the writer for the Araminta Spookie series, originally created by author Roger McGough. Angie Sage currently resides in a fifteenth-century house in Somerset, a location she describes as "Magykal," reflecting her deep connection to the world of fantasy and storytelling.
