Ann Bennett is a British author, born in a small village in Northamptonshire, UK. She studied Law at Cambridge and went on to practice as a solicitor. However, her true passion lay in writing, and she eventually became a full-time author. Bennett specializes in historical fiction, with a particular interest in the Second World War in South East Asia.
Bennett's first book, "Bamboo Heart: A Daughter's Quest," was inspired by her father's experience as a prisoner of war on the Thai-Burma Railway and her own travels in South-East Asia. This initial inspiration led her to write more books about the Second World War in the region, including "Bamboo Island: The Planter's Wife," "A Daughter's Promise," "Bamboo Road: The Homecoming," "The Tea Planter's Club," "The Amulet," and "The Fortune Teller of Kathmandu." These seven books make up the "Echoes of Empire Collection."
In addition to the "Echoes of Empire Collection," Bennett has also written several other historical fiction novels. "The Lake Pavilion" and "The Lake Palace" are set in British India during the 1930s and WWII, while "The Lake Pagoda" and "The Lake Villa" are set in French Indochina. "The Runaway Sisters," "The Orphan House," "The Child Without a Home," and "The Forgotten Children" are set in Europe during the same era. These books have been published by Bookouture.
Bennett is married and has three grown-up sons and a granddaughter. She currently resides in Surrey, UK. For more information about the author, one can visit her website.
