Ann Brashares is a distinguished American author, best known for her series of young adult romance novels, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Born on July 30, 1967, in Alexandria, Virginia, Brashares was raised in Chevy Chase, Maryland, where she attended the Quaker school, Sidwell Friends. She later pursued her undergraduate studies at Barnard College, a constituent college of Columbia University, graduating with a degree in philosophy.
After college, Brashares had initially planned to further her studies in philosophy in graduate school. However, she decided to take a year off to work as an editor, hoping to save money for her graduate studies.
