Anne Zouroudi is a highly acclaimed British author, best known for her Greek Detective series. She was born in England but spent a significant part of her childhood in the Greek islands, which has greatly influenced her writing. After completing her high school education at Sheffield High, she pursued a career in the IT industry, which took her to New York's Wall Street and Denver, Colorado. It was during her time in America that Anne began taking her writing career more seriously, and she bought a typewriter for her short stories.
Anne's love for Greece began when she and her sister booked a summer holiday to a tiny island in southern Greece. The beauty of the place left a lasting impression on her, and she ended up living there for several years, marrying a Greek and giving birth to her son. After returning to the UK, Anne continued to write, and her short stories grew into novels. She wrote three novels that didn't find publishers, but her fourth novel, featuring the Greek Detective Hermes Diaktoros, was successful, and she has since written more than six mystery novels in the series. Anne's works have been nominated for the ITV3 Crime Awards and the Desmond Elliot Prize.
Anne's writing is inspired by Greece's people, culture, and myths, and her novels featuring Hermes Diaktoros have received critical acclaim. She has been described as writing beautifully, with her books having all the sparkle and light of the island landscapes in which she sets them. Her works are as tasty as one of those irresistible honey-soaked Greek confections, with lovely, delicious prose and plot. Anne's experiences living in Greece have allowed her to write authentically about Greece's people, Greek food and culture, and the Greek islands themselves. Her fascinating life story is featured in the ITV1 documentary 'I Married the Waiter', broadcast in September 2014.
