Annie Proulx

Edna Annie Proulx is an accomplished American author and journalist, born in 1935. She has made significant contributions to the literary world with her novels, short stories, and non-fiction works. Proulx is known for her distinct writing style that beautifully captures the complexities of human emotions and relationships.

Born and raised in the United States, Proulx attended Deering High School in Portland, Maine, before moving on to Colby College briefly. She later completed her B.A. in History from the University of Vermont and earned her M.A. from Sir George Williams University (now Concordia University) in Montreal. Proulx has three sons and a daughter, and her life experiences have greatly influenced her writing, providing rich and diverse perspectives.

Throughout her career, Proulx has written under various names, including Annie Proulx, E. Annie Proulx, and E.A. Proulx. She gained widespread recognition for her short story "Brokeback Mountain," which was later adapted into an Academy Award, BAFTA, and Golden Globe Award-winning film. The movie received critical acclaim and nominations in multiple categories, although Proulx expressed her disappointment when it did not win the Best Picture award.

Proulx's literary achievements include winning the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the National Book Award for Fiction in 1994 for her novel "The Shipping News." She also won the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction for her first novel, "Postcards." Her works have been celebrated with numerous accolades, such as the Irish Times International Fiction Prize for "The Shipping News" and the O. Henry Prize for her short stories.
