Anton Gill

Anton Gill is a British author who has made a significant contribution to the field of historical fiction and non-fiction. Born in Ilford, Essex in 1948, Gill is the only child of a German father and an English mother. He spent his early childhood in Bamberg, Germany, which allowed him to become fluent in German and develop a strong connection to the country. After returning to England, Gill attended Chigwell School in Essex, where he discovered his love for acting and directing. He then went on to study English Literature at Clare College, Cambridge, where he continued to hone his skills in the theatre and became friends with notable figures such as Salman Rushdie.

After graduating, Gill worked for various organizations in the theatre and broadcasting industries, including the English Stage Company, the Arts Council of Great Britain, and the BBC. However, it was in 1984 that Gill became a full-time writer, and since then he has published over 35 books. His work spans a wide range of topics, but he is particularly known for his expertise in contemporary European history. In addition to his non-fiction work, Gill has also written historical fiction, including a series of Egyptian mysteries featuring Huy the Scribe, as well as a series of novels based on the video game Assassin's Creed under the name Oliver Bowden. He is also the author of biographies on notable figures such as William Dampier and Peggy Guggenheim. Gill is married to actress Marji Campi and splits his time between London and Paris.
