Arthur Conan Doyle

Arthur Conan Doyle, also known as Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle, was a Scottish author and physician born in Edinburgh in May 1859 and passed away in July 1930. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest writers of crime fiction, particularly renowned for his Sherlock Holmes series. Conan Doyle was educated at a Roman Catholic Jesuit school in Hodder Place, Stonyhurst, and pursued medicine at the University of Edinburgh from 1876 to 1881. It was during his time at the university that he began writing stories.

Conan Doyle's first publication was when he was 19, and his writing career continued to flourish even after his graduation. He worked as a doctor on a steamship voyage to the African west coast and completed his doctorate in 1885. In 1885, he married Louisa Hawkins Doyle, with whom he had two children. Following his wife's death in 1906, he married Jean Elizabeth Leckie in 1907, and they had three children together.

Conan Doyle's most famous creation is Sherlock Holmes, a brilliant detective featured in a series of stories, including "The Hound of the Baskervilles" (1902). He was also a prolific writer of non-fiction historical books, romance, science fiction, plays, and more. Despite his success as an author, Conan Doyle remained a physician throughout his life. He was a passionate advocate for various causes, including divorce law reform, the Channel Tunnel, and the issuing of inflatable life-jackets to sailors. He also campaigned to prove the innocence of individuals and was a volunteer physician in the Boer War. In his later life, he became a convert to spiritualism. Conan Doyle's greatest achievement, his creation of Sherlock Holmes, remains a timeless classic and a testament to his storytelling prowess.
