Benjamín Labatut

Benjamin Labatut was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 1980. He spent his childhood in several places, including The Hague, Buenos Aires, and Lima. When he was fourteen, he moved to Santiago, Chile, where he has lived since.

Labatut's first book, "La Antártica empieza aquí" (The Antarctic Begins Here), was published in Mexico in 2009. The book, which won the Premio Caza de Letras 2009, delivered by Universidad Autónoma de México (UNAM) and Editorial Alfaguara, explores scientific, historical, and philosophical notes about the void. After a deep personal crisis, Labatut wrote his second book, "Después de la luz" (After Light), which was published by Editorial Hueders in 2016.

Labatut's latest book, "Un verdor terrible" (A Terrible Green), was published in Spanish by Editorial Anagrama and in several other countries, including Germany, Italy, France, Netherlands, United Kingdom and Portugal. The book delves into the world of scientific discovery and the consequences of humanity's pursuit of knowledge. Labatut's work is known for its exploration of complex themes and ideas, making him a prominent figure in contemporary Latin American literature.
