Blake Charlton is an accomplished American author, currently residing in San Francisco, California. He is best known for his science fiction and fantasy novels, particularly the Spellwright series. Charlton was born in Stanford, CA in 1979 and was diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age. Growing up, he found it difficult to learn how to read due to his condition, which caused frustration and feelings of illiteracy. However, this all changed in seventh grade when he discovered fantasy novels and began sneaking them into his study hall. This act marked the beginning of his love for reading and writing.
Charlton's journey to becoming a successful author was not traditional. After discovering his passion for reading, he went on to attend Yale as an undergraduate and later pursued a medical education at Stanford. Despite his demanding academic and medical career, Charlton never lost his passion for writing. He continued to write and work on his craft, eventually publishing his first novel, Spellwright, in 2010. Since then, he has published two more novels, Spellbound and Spellbreaker, all of which have been critically acclaimed and translated into multiple languages.
In addition to his work as a novelist, Charlton is also a respected physician and scientist. He is currently a clinical fellow in interventional cardiology at the University of California San Francisco. His non-fiction work has been featured in several prestigious medical journals, including The New York Times, The British Medical Journal, and The Journal of the American Medical Association Internal Medicine. Charlton's unique background in both the arts and sciences has given him a distinctive voice and perspective in both fields.
Charlton is proud of his dyslexia and sees it as a strength rather than a weakness. He hopes to inspire and encourage other dyslexic individuals to pursue their passions, no matter the challenges they may face. Charlton's work as an author, physician, and scientist serves as a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of embracing one's differences.
