Brian W. Aldiss

Brian W. Aldiss was a highly regarded English author, renowned for his science fiction novels and short stories. Born on August 18, 1925, Aldiss grew up with a passion for reading, particularly the works of H.G. Wells, Robert Heinlein, and Philip K. Dick. His military service in the Royal Signals during World War II, where he saw active duty, provided him with a wealth of experiences that would later influence his writing. After the war, he worked as a bookseller, which not only allowed him to continue his love of reading but also provided an opportunity to write short stories for a trade journal. This writing caught the attention of an editor at Faber and Faber, marking the beginning of his professional writing career.

Throughout his career, Aldiss received numerous awards and accolades for his work. In 1982, he was named a Grand Master by the Science Fiction Writers of America, and in 1999, he was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame. His writing won him two Hugo Awards, one Nebula Award, and one John W. Campbell Memorial Award. Shackleton, Arch Mendicant, and "Doc" Peristyle. He was married twice, first to Olive Fortesque from 1948 to 1965, and then to Margaret Manson from 1965 to 1997. Aldiss passed away on August 19, 2017, just after celebrating his 92nd birthday with his family and closest friends.
