Bryan Gruley is an accomplished American author and journalist, known for his suspenseful and thrilling novels. He is best known for his Starvation Lake Mystery series and his Bleak Harbor series. The Starvation Lake series consists of three books, with the first novel, Starvation Lake, being a finalist for the Edgar Award by the Mystery Writers of America. His second novel series, the Bleak Harbor series, is also gaining popularity.
In addition to his work as a novelist, Gruley is a reputed journalist who has won the Pulitzer Prize for his work in the field of journalism. He currently works for Bloomberg News as a reporter, where he writes long-form articles for the Bloomberg Businessweek magazine. Prior to his tenure at Bloomberg, Gruley spent 15 years at The Wall Street Journal, where he was the Chicago bureau chief for seven years. During his time at the Journal, he covered breaking news and was involved in the paper's coverage of the September 11 terrorist attacks, for which he shared in the Pulitzer Prize.
Gruley's new novel, Purgatory Bay, is set to be published on January 14, 2020, by Thomas & Mercer. The novel follows a young woman who, after her family was murdered in an apparent mob hit, is plotting revenge against those she holds responsible. The novel has received praise from several authors, including Michael Connelly, Andrew Gross, T.R. Ragan, Gillian Flynn, Steve Hamilton, and Robert Dugoni.
In addition to his writing, Gruley is a Detroit native and a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He is an avid hockey player and an amateur musician who currently resides in Chicago with his wife, Pam.
