Dale Brown is a highly successful American author, best known for his techno-thriller novels that prominently feature aviation. Born on November 2, 1956, in Buffalo, New York, Brown graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Western European History. Afterward, he joined the US Air Force, where he served as a navigator-bombardier in the B-52G Stratofortress heavy bomber and the FB-111A supersonic medium bomber. Brown's military service provided him with a wealth of knowledge and experience, which he would later use in his writing.
Brown is perhaps best known for his Patrick McLanahan series, which revolves around the adventures of a fictional US Air Force captain. The series includes popular novels such as Flight of the Old Dog, Silver Tower, and Day of the Cheetah. Additionally, Brown has written several standalone novels and is the lead author of the Dreamland series, along with Jim DeFelice. His works have been translated into 11 languages and are distributed in over 70 countries, with worldwide sales of his novels, audiobooks, and computer games exceeding 12 million copies.
In addition to his writing, Brown is a multi-engine and instrument-rated private pilot who can often be found flying his own plane across the United States. He is also a director and volunteer pilot for AirLifeLine, a non-profit national charitable medical transportation organization that flies needy persons free of charge to receive treatment. Brown is a member of The Writers Guild and a Life Member of the Air Force Association and U.S. Naval Institute. He supports a number of organizations to promote law enforcement, education, and literacy. Dale, his wife Diane, and son Hunter live near the shores of Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
