Daniel Handler is an accomplished American author, who is well known by the pen name Lemony Snicket. He was born on February 28, 1970, and has gained fame and recognition for his children's series books, published under the pseudonym Lemony Snicket. Handler's popularity soared with the publication of the series 'A Series of Unfortunate Events' and 'All The Wrong Questions', which were written under the Lemony Snicket name.
Handler has also published several adult books under his real name, although his initial book, 'The Basic Eight', was rejected by many publishers as it was seen as a representation of dark subject matter. Despite the initial rejection, Handler has gone on to achieve great success with his adult novels, including 'Why We Broke Up', 'We Are Pirates', 'All The Dirty Parts' and 'Bottle Grove'. His books have sold more than 70 million copies and have been translated into 40 languages. They have also been adapted for film, stage, and television, including the recent adaptation of 'A Series of Unfortunate Events' for Netflix.
In addition to his work as a novelist, Handler has received commissions from the San Francisco Symphony, Berkeley Repertory Theater, and the Royal Shakespeare Company. He has collaborated with artists Maira Kalman on a series of books for the Museum of Modern Art in New York and with musicians Stephin Merritt, Benjamin Gibbard, Colin Meloy, and Torquil Campbell. Handler lives in San Francisco with his wife, illustrator Lisa Brown, and their son. He is currently working on the final book in the 'All the Wrong Questions' series, 'Why Is This Night Different from All Other Nights?'.
