David D. Levine

David D. Levine is an American author with a strong focus on science fiction and fantasy. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he grew up in Milwaukee after his family moved to Wisconsin when he was six. Levine attended Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in architecture. However, his journey to becoming a professional writer was not straightforward. He initially became a technical writer, then worked at Intel as a user interface designer and software engineer for nearly one and a half decades. It wasn't until 2007 that he decided to pursue writing full-time.

Throughout his career, Levine has been an active member of fandom since 1980, participating in various conventions and committees. He published his first science fiction story, "The Worldcon That Wasn't," in 1996, which was included in the Again, Alternate Worldcons anthology. Since then, he has written more than fifty science fiction and fantasy stories, with his work appearing in numerous publications such as Asimov's, Analog, F&SF, and various anthologies. Additionally, Levine has contributed to George R.R. Martin's Wild Cards series. His story "Tk'Tk'Tk" won the prestigious Hugo Award, and he has been shortlisted for several other awards, including the Hugo, Nebula, Campbell, and Sturgeon.

Levine is the author of the novel Arabella of Mars, published in 2016, as well as its sequels Arabella and the Battle of Venus (2017) and Arabella the Traitor of Mars (2018). His award-winning collection Space Magic was published by Wheatland Press. He is also a member of publishing cooperative Book View Cafe and nonprofit organization Oregon Science Fiction Conventions Inc. In 2010, Levine spent two weeks at a simulated Mars base in the Utah desert, an experience that has likely influenced his writing. He currently resides in Portland, Oregon, with his wife, Kate Yule.
