David Nicholls

David Nicholls is a highly accomplished British author and screenwriter. He was educated in England, attending Toynbee Comprehensive School and Barton Peveril Sixth Form College before graduating from the University of Bristol with a degree in English Literature and Drama. After graduation, Nicholls won a scholarship to study at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City, and upon returning to London, he earned his Equity card and began working as an actor. He spent several years trying to make it as a professional actor, but eventually discovered his true passion lay in writing.

Nicholls' early career in writing was marked by success. He landed a job with BBC Radio Drama as a script reader/researcher, which led to further script-editing jobs at London Weekend Television and Tiger Aspect Productions. During this time, he began to write his own original scripts, including a sitcom about frustrated waiters titled "Waiting" which was optioned by the BBC. His first novel, "Starter for Ten," was featured on the first Richard and Judy Book Club. He has since written several other bestselling novels, including "One Day," "Us," and "Sweet Sorrow." His work has been translated into 40 languages and has sold millions of copies worldwide.

In addition to his work as a novelist, Nicholls is also an accomplished screenwriter. He has written adaptations of several classic novels, including "Far from the Madding Crowd," "When Did You Last See Your Father?" and "Great Expectations." He has also adapted his own novels for the screen, including "Starter for Ten," "One Day," and "Us." His adaptation of Edward St Aubyn's "Patrick Melrose," starring Benedict Cumberbatch, was nominated for an Emmy and won him a BAFTA for best writer. He is also the Executive Producer and a contributing screenwriter on a new Netflix adaptation of "One Day." His latest novel, "You Are Here," will be published in spring 2024.
