David Penny is an English author of fiction, born in London in 1950. His passion for writing took a serious turn after moving to Mid Wales with his family. As a young boy, Penny was particularly interested in science fiction, consuming numerous sci-fi stories and even writing some of his own. By the age of seventeen, he had already been published in small fan magazines. His professional writing journey began when a short story was accepted by Galaxy magazine, followed by appearances in the UK magazine Vertex. At the age of 24, Penny's first novel, The Sunset People, was accepted for publication by Robert Hale, marking the beginning of his career as a published author.
After the publication of his initial science fiction novels, Penny's life took a different direction. For over 35 years, he was engaged in various jobs, eventually running his own software company. However, he always missed writing and decided to return to it later in life. The Red Hill is his first novel in 35 years, introducing the character of Thomas Berrington, a surgeon-detective. This marked Penny's return to writing after a long hiatus, and he chose to publish independently this time around. His works are now available in multiple formats, including eBook, print, audio, and even in Spanish translation. When he's not writing, Penny enjoys spending time with his dog Max, traveling, and attempting to learn how to play the guitar.
