David Weber

David Mark Weber is an accomplished American author, best known for his works in the science fiction and fantasy genres. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1952 and grew up with a blue-collar father who loved science fiction and a college English teacher mother who owned her own ad agency. This unique upbringing, along with his lifelong love for history, provided the perfect foundation for Weber's successful writing career.

Weber and his wife Sharon currently reside in Greenville, South Carolina with their three children and "a passel of dogs." He has been writing full-time for thirty years, and his works often feature military, particularly naval, themes. He is known for challenging traditional gender roles in his writing, often placing female characters in what have been historically male-dominated roles.

One of Weber's most popular and enduring characters is Honor Harrington, the nucleus of the "Honorverse" series. With a last name inspired by a fleet doctor in Patrick O'Brian's Master and Commander, Harrington's alliterated name is an homage to C.S. Forester's character Horatio Hornblower. Weber has developed Harrington's story and the "Honorverse" through sixteen novels and six shared-universe anthologies, as of spring 2013. In addition to his Honorverse series, Weber is also known for his Safehold series, published by Tor.

Weber's commitment to character development is evident in his writing, as he focuses on creating well-rounded and relatable characters. He has received numerous nominations and best-seller accolades for his work, and he continues to write and publish to this day. In 2008, Weber donated his archive to the department of Rare Books and Special Collections at Northern Illinois University. Many of his books are available online, either in their entirety or in the form of sample chapters.
