Deborah Ann Harry, commonly known as Debbie Harry, is a highly accomplished singer-songwriter, actress, and fashion icon. She is most famous for being the lead singer of the punk rock/new wave band Blondie, which has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide. Harry has also achieved success as a solo artist, having recorded five solo albums and sold over 7 million records. In the mid-1990s, she performed and recorded as part of the Jazz Passengers.
Harry has an extensive acting career, with over 30 film roles and several television appearances to her credit. Some of her notable film appearances include Videodrome, Hairspray, and Heavy. Her influence in the worlds of music, fashion, and art has led to her induction into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame for Blondie in 2006. Harry's distinctive voice and artistic sensibility have been a constant presence in her work, whether as the face of Blondie or through her collaborations with the Jazz Passengers.
In addition to her musical and acting careers, Harry is also a visual artist. In autumn 2022, Titan Books will publish GIGER: Debbie Harry Species, an art book curated by Chris Stein, which chronicles the extraordinary collaboration between Stein, Harry, and H.R. Giger for Harry's 1981 solo album KooKoo. Harry's memoir, FACE IT, is also available as a paperback edition. Throughout her career, Harry has broken down barriers and combined various genres, including hip-hop, pop, rock, punk, disco, and Reggae, to create a sound that is uniquely her own. She will forever be remembered as an irreverent Lower East Side punk goddess and a bona fide international ambassador of New York cool.
