Delia Sherman, born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1951, is a renowned fantasy writer and editor. She was raised in New York City, where she attended The Chapin School. Sherman furthered her education at Vassar, obtaining her B.A. in 1972, and at Brown University, where she received her Masters of Arts and PhD in 1975 and 1981, respectively. Her academic background includes teaching at Boston University and Northeastern University, where she lectured on Composition and Fantasy as Literature.
Sherman has made significant contributions to the field of fantasy literature. She is a member of Endicott Studio and has published numerous stories for both adults and children in various anthologies. Her work has earned her recognition, including the Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for her novel, The Porcelain Dove. In addition to her writing, Sherman has also served as a judge for different awards. From 1996 to 2004, she worked as a consulting editor at Tor Books. Since 1993, she has been working full-time as a writer, teacher, and lecturer.
Delia Sherman is married to Ellen Kushner, also a writer, with whom she occasionally collaborates. The couple tied the knot in 1996 and have shared a life in New York City. Sherman's notable works include "Through a Brazen Mirror," "The Porcelain Dove," and "Changeling." She is also a co-founder of the Interstitial Arts Foundation, an organization that promotes art that transcends genre boundaries.
