Dmitry Glukhovsky

Dmitry Glukhovsky is a renowned Russian author, celebrated for his contributions to science fiction, fantasy, and magic-realism. He is best known for his Metro Trilogy, which includes the novels Metro 2033, Metro 2034, and Metro 2035. The first book in the series, Metro 2033, won him the Encouragement Award of the European Science Fiction Society in 2007.

Born in Moscow, Russia, Glukhovsky earned his degree in Journalism and International Relations at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He has since lived in four different countries and is fluent in four languages. His background in journalism is extensive, having worked for EuroNews TV, Deutsche Welle, RT, and Radio Mayak. Currently, Glukhovsky also writes columns for Harper’s Bazaar, l’Officiel, and Playboy.

Glukhovsky's career as an author began in 2002 when he published his first novel, Metro 2033, on his own website for free. The novel became an interactive experiment, attracting many readers and eventually being made into a video game for the Xbox 360 console and PC. In addition to the Metro Trilogy, Glukhovsky is also known for his novels "It's Getting Darker" and his series of satirical "Stories of Motherland" that criticize contemporary Russia.

Apart from his work as an author and journalist, Glukhovsky is a long-time critic of Russia's authoritarian political regime. After Russia's attack on Ukraine in 2022, he was declared wanted by the Russian authorities for his pacifist activism and was eventually sentenced in absentia by a Moscow court to 8.5 years in jail. Glukhovsky now lives in exile in Europe.
