Don Keith is a bestselling and award-winning American author, well-known for his thriller and historical fiction stories. He was born in 1947 and has spent his entire life in the South. Keith attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where he studied broadcast and film communication, with a minor in English and literature. His background in broadcast journalism has earned him several awards, including the Associated Press and United Press International awards for news writing and reporting, and the Hector Award for innovation in broadcast journalism.
As an on-air broadcaster, Keith won the Billboard Magazine's "Radio Personality of the Year" in two formats, country and contemporary. He has had a successful career in radio, working as a broadcast personality for over twenty years in Birmingham and Nashville. He also owned his own consultancy, co-owned a Mobile, Alabama, radio station (WZEW-FM), and hosted and produced several nationally syndicated radio shows. Keith's first novel, "The Forever Season," was published in 1995 and received critical acclaim, winning the Alabama Library Association's "Fiction of the Year" award in 1997. The novel was later re-issued in the fall of 2002 by the University of Alabama Press as part of its prestigious Deep South Books series.
Keith has written both fiction and non-fiction, including several books on WWII history, biographies, and military thrillers. He co-wrote the thriller "Hunter Killer" with George Wallace, which was the basis for the hit movie starring Gerard Butler and Gary Oldman. He has published more than forty works, including several nationally best-selling thrillers, and his writing has appeared in various publications such as The Washington Post, CQ Magazine, and The American Legion Magazine. Keith is a partner in a film production company, Fig Tree Media Group, and has written several scripts and other projects in various stages of pre-production for movies and television. He frequently conducts seminars and writing workshops around the country and is an in-demand public speaker.
