Don Winslow is an accomplished American author, best known for his crime fiction and historical fiction novels. He is the author of twenty-one acclaimed international bestsellers, including 'The Force,' 'The Border,' 'The Cartel,' 'The Power of the Dog,' 'Savages,' and 'The Winter of Frankie Machine.' Winslow's works have been translated into multiple languages and have gained a massive following worldwide.
Winslow was born in New York in 1953 to parents who were both literature enthusiasts. His mother was a librarian, and his father was a U.S. Navy officer who told him stories that would later influence his career path. Winslow's love for reading and storytelling started at a young age, thanks to his parents' influence. He pursued his higher education at the University of Nebraska, where he specialized in African history, and later earned a master's degree in military history.
Before becoming a full-time author, Winslow worked as a movie theater chain manager and a private investigator. These experiences have provided him with valuable insights into the world of crime and investigation, which he incorporates into his novels. Two of his books, 'The Death and Life of Bobby Z' and 'Savages,' have been adapted into films, with Winslow himself writing the screenplay for 'Savages,' which was directed by Oliver Stone.
Winslow's Neal Carey Mysteries series is particularly noteworthy, with five books featuring the character Neal in the role of a detective. His writings have earned him several awards, including the Shamus Award for producing the most excellent P.I. book. He currently resides in California with his spouse, Jean, and their son, Thomas.
