Dorien Grey

Dorien Grey was the pseudonym of Roger Margason, an accomplished author and editor known for his contributions to gay fiction. Under the Dorien Grey name, Margason wrote the popular "Dick Hardesty Mystery" series, which debuted in 2000 and spanned fourteen novels, as well as the "Elliott Smith Mystery" series, a paranormal detective collection. He also authored the standalone western-romance novel "Calico." His works blended mystery, romance, and adventure, often exploring themes of love, justice, and the complexities of human nature.

Margason's writing career was preceded by a diverse professional background. After serving in the U.S. Navy during the Cold War, he graduated with an English degree from Northern Illinois University and later worked as an editor for a Los Angeles publishing house, where he helped establish a division dedicated to gay literature. His experiences in the military and publishing industry informed his storytelling, lending authenticity to his narratives. As Dorien Grey, he embraced an alter ego that allowed him to craft worlds where optimism and happy endings prevailed, reflecting his belief in the fundamental goodness of people.

Margason passed away on November 1, 2015, leaving behind a literary legacy that continues to resonate with readers. His works remain celebrated for their engaging plots, heartfelt themes, and distinctive voice in LGBTQ+ fiction.
