Doug Johnstone is a successful author of crime fiction novels, as well as a musician and journalist. He is known for his Skelfs series and for writing gripping stories about ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. Johnstone grew up in Arbroath, Scotland, and currently resides in Edinburgh with his wife and two children. He has a diploma in journalism, a degree in physics, and a doctorate in nuclear physics. It was his debut novel, "Tombstoning," published in 2006, that launched his career as a successful author. The novel was met with commercial success and critical acclaim, and Johnstone has since been nominated and won numerous awards for his work. His novel "Breakers" made the longlist for the Scottish Crime Novel of the Year McIlvanney Prize, and "Hit & Run" and "The Big Chill" were Amazon bestselling titles.
In addition to his work as a novelist, Johnstone is also an accomplished musician and journalist. He has had short stories appear in various publications, and has worked as a freelance arts journalist since 1999, primarily covering music and literature. He is also a songwriter and musician, with six albums and three EPs released. He is a member of the Fun Lovin’ Crime Writers, a band of crime writers, and co-founder of the Scotland Writers Football Club. Johnstone is also a dedicated educator, having taught creative writing and served as writer in residence at various institutions over the last two decades. He is a Royal Literary Fund Consultant Fellow and works as a mentor and manuscript assessor for many organizations.
