Douglas Preston is an accomplished American author, known for his collaborations with author Lincoln Child and his work as a journalist. Preston was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and spent his childhood in the nearby suburb of Wellesley. From a young age, Preston displayed a curious and adventurous spirit, often engaging in mischief with his brothers and creating homemade rockets and incendiary devices.
Preston's early years were marked by several notable events, including the loss of a fingertip at the age of three and the loss of his two front teeth in a fight with his brother Richard. Despite these mishaps, Preston went on to attend Pomona College in California, where he studied a variety of subjects before settling on English literature. After graduating, Preston began his career at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, eventually becoming the manager of publications. It was during this time that Preston met Lincoln Child, who would later become his frequent writing partner.
In addition to his fiction work, Preston is also a successful non-fiction author, with a number of his books becoming New York Times bestsellers. Some of his notable non-fiction works include "Dinosaurs in the Attic," "The Monster of Florence," and "The Lost City of the Monkey God." Preston's writing has also appeared in a number of prominent publications, including The New Yorker, National Geographic, and Smithsonian.
Preston is a recipient of numerous writing awards, including an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from Pomona College. He currently serves as the president of the Authors Guild, the nation's oldest and largest association of authors and journalists.
