Fiona McFarlane

Fiona McFarlane is an Australian author acclaimed for her debut novel, "The Night Guest," which garnered international recognition upon its publication. The novel was translated into 15 languages and published in 19 countries, earning accolades such as the NSW Premier's Prize and shortlistings for prestigious awards including the Miles Franklin Literary Award, the Stella Prize, and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. McFarlane was also named one of the Sydney Morning Herald's Best Young Australian Novelists in 2014 for her compelling storytelling.

Educated at the University of Sydney and the University of Cambridge, where she completed a PhD on nostalgia in American fiction, McFarlane further honed her craft through writing residencies in the United States. She attended the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown and Phillips Exeter Academy before earning her Master of Fine Arts in Fiction from the Michener Center for Writers at the University of Texas at Austin. Her short fiction has appeared in notable publications such as "The New Yorker", "Zoetrope: All-Story", and "The Missouri Review", showcasing her versatility across literary forms. McFarlane is currently working on a short story collection to be published by Penguin Australia, Sceptre (UK), and Faber and Faber (US).
