Fran Stewart is a well-known author from the United States, celebrated for her work in the literature and fiction, thriller, and mystery genres. She is best recognized for her Scotshop mystery series and the Biscuit McKee mystery series. Stewart admits that she was a slow learner during her childhood and adolescence, often disregarding her dream of becoming a novelist. However, she eventually realized that neglecting her aspirations could lead to negative consequences for both her physical and mental well-being. This revelation prompted her to begin writing, an experience she found both enjoyable and healing. As a result, she wrote her first novel, "Orange As Marmalade," which features a middle-aged librarian named Biscuit McKee and Marmalade, a white and orange library cat. The series has since expanded to include seven books, each with a different color name in the title, and Stewart is currently working on the next installment.
Stewart resides in Georgia, on the other side of Hog Mountain, with various rescued cats for company. Growing up in an Air Force family, she moved around frequently during her childhood, attending high school in three different states. This experience inspired her to create a small, quaint town as the setting for her mysteries, albeit with the addition of murders. Stewart has written and published several series and standalone novels, including the ScotShop Mystery Series, the Biscuit McKee Series, "A Slaying Song Tonight," and a beekeeping memoir in six volumes. In addition to her writing, Stewart is passionate about animal welfare and donates a portion of her book sales to the Humane Society and the Noah's Ark Sanctuary. She also enjoys reading, singing, knitting, and bird-watching in her spare time.
