Fran Wilde is a two-time Nebula Award-winning author known for her contributions to science fiction, fantasy, and middle-grade literature. She has published nine novels, including the Nebula- and Compton Crook-winning debut "Updraft," which launched her acclaimed "Bone Universe" series. Her middle-grade novel "Riverland" also earned a Nebula Award and was named one of NPR's Favorite Books of 2019. Wilde's extensive short fiction, appearing in publications such as Asimov’s Science Fiction, Tor.com, and Nature, has been recognized with nominations for six Nebula Awards, four Hugo Awards, and a World Fantasy Award.
Wilde's work often explores themes of resilience, transformation, and intricate world-building. Her "Bone Universe" series, comprising "Updraft," "Cloudbound," and "Horizon," received widespread acclaim for its imaginative setting and compelling narratives. Similarly, her Nebula-finalist novelette "The Jewel and Her Lapidary" showcased her talent for blending rich storytelling with lyrical prose. Beyond fiction, Wilde has contributed nonfiction to The Washington Post, The New York Times, and NPR, while also teaching creative writing at institutions like Vermont College of Fine Arts.
In addition to her writing and teaching, Wilde serves as Managing Editor for The Sunday Morning Transport. Her diverse interests, from gemstone setting to programming, reflect the creativity and curiosity that define her literary career.
