Frances McNamara

Frances McNamara is a well-established author, known for her series of historical mystery novels. Born and raised in Boston, McNamara has a deep connection to her hometown, which is often reflected in her writing. She has a particular passion for sailing, frequently taking to the Charles River in Boston or beaching on Cape Cod when she's not working or writing.

McNamara's educational background includes degrees from Mount Holyoke and Simmons Colleges. Prior to her writing career, she worked as a librarian at the University of Chicago. This experience has no doubt contributed to her meticulous research and attention to detail in her novels.

McNamara is the author of two series: the Nutshell Murder Mystery series, set in Boston, and the Emily Cabot Mysteries, set in Chicago. The Nutshell Murder Mystery series includes "Molasses Murder in a Nutshell" (set in January 1919) and "Three-Decker Murder in a Nutshell" (set in November 1919), among others. Meanwhile, the Emily Cabot Mysteries includes "Death at the Fair" (set in summer 1893), "Death at Hull House" (set in winter 1893-94), and "Death at Pullman" (set in spring/summer 1894), among others.

McNamara's writing is characterized by her ability to weave historical details and engaging mystery plots together in a compelling way. As a former librarian who has spent time in both Boston and Chicago, she brings a unique perspective and depth of knowledge to her work. She currently resides in Boston and Cape Cod, no doubt finding inspiration for her writing in the rich history and beauty of these places.
