Frank Kane

Frank Kane was a Brooklyn-born author and lifelong New Yorker who transitioned from journalism and corporate public relations to fiction writing. He gained recognition for his crime stories published in pulp magazines while simultaneously scripting for iconic radio programs such as "Gangbusters" and "The Shadow". Kane is best known for his Johnny Liddell detective series, though he also penned suspense novels and softcore erotica. Under the pseudonym Frank Boyd, he authored "Johnny Staccato", a Gold Medal paperback adaptation of the noir television series featuring a jazz pianist turned private investigator.

Kane's writing career reflected his versatility across genres, blending hardboiled crime with elements of suspense and pulp fiction. His background in journalism and radio scripting lent a sharp, dialogue-driven style to his work, often capturing the gritty atmosphere of mid-20th-century New York. Though primarily associated with detective fiction, his forays into erotica and television tie-ins demonstrated his adaptability as a writer. Kane's contributions to crime fiction remain notable for their brisk pacing and authentic urban settings.
