Frank O'Rourke was an American author renowned for his contributions to Western and mystery fiction, as well as sports-themed literature. Over his prolific career, he wrote more than 60 novels and numerous magazine articles, establishing himself as a versatile storyteller. Several of his works were adapted into films, including "The Bravados" (1958) and "A Mule for the Marquesa," which inspired the acclaimed movie "The Professionals" (1966).
Born in Denver, Colorado, O'Rourke attended Kemper Military School and briefly pursued a career in baseball before serving in World War II. After the war, he dedicated himself to writing, crafting narratives that often reflected his deep understanding of adventure, conflict, and human resilience. In addition to his adult fiction, he later ventured into children's literature, showcasing his adaptability across genres. O'Rourke also published under pseudonyms such as Kevin Connor, Frank O'Malley, and Patrick O'Malley. His career spanned decades before his passing in 1989.
