Frank Zafiro

Frank Zafiro is a renowned author who has made a name for himself in writing gritty crime fiction. Growing up, Zafiro was always interested in writing, starting to take it seriously at the age of thirteen. His passion for writing led him to start the first draft of Under A Raging Moon in 1995, which would later become the first book in the River City series of police procedurals. This series is set in a fictional version of Spokane, Washington, and features an ensemble cast of officers, detectives, and leaders.

Before becoming a full-time writer, Zafiro served in the US Army from 1986-91 in Military Intelligence as a Czechoslovak linguist. After his military service, he became a police officer in Spokane, Washington, in 1993. During his career, he worked in various roles, including patrol officer, corporal, detective, sergeant, and captain. He retired from law enforcement in 2013 to focus on his writing and teaching career. Zafiro's law enforcement background has been instrumental in his crime fiction writing, providing him with a unique perspective from both sides of the badge.

Apart from the River City series, Zafiro has written several other series, including the Stefan Kopriva mysteries, The Last Horseman, Spocompton series, Ania series with Jim Wilsky, Bricks and Cam Job series with Eric Beetner, and the Charlie-316 series with Colin Conway. He has also written mainstream fiction under his real name, Frank Scalise, and fantasy under the name Frank Saverio. Zafiro's books are available in all formats, including paperback, ebook, and audio book. He has received several accolades for his work, including being a four-time finalist for the Derringer Award and winning three PSWA awards. Zafiro currently resides in Redmond, Oregon, with his wife, Kristi. He is an avid hockey fan, reader, movie lover, gamer, and a tortured guitarist.
