Frederic Austin Ogg

Frederic Austin Ogg was a historian and political scientist renowned for his scholarly contributions to the field of political science. Born in Solsberry, Indiana, he authored over 20 volumes, many of which became foundational texts in academic curricula. His works, grounded in rigorous research, explored themes such as diplomacy and governance, solidifying his reputation as a leading authority in his discipline.

Ogg's academic journey began at DePauw University, where he graduated in 1899, followed by a master's degree from Indiana University in 1900. After teaching at Manual Training High School in Indianapolis, he earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1908 with a thesis titled "Slave Property as an Issue in Anglo-American Diplomacy, 1782–1828." His career was marked by significant editorial leadership, including his tenure as editor of the "American Political Science Review" from 1926 to 1949. In 1941, he was elected President of the American Political Science Association, underscoring his influence in the academic community.
