Dr. Frederick Ramsay is an American author, well-known for his mystery, thriller, and historical novels. He was born in Baltimore and grew up near the east coast. Ramsay completed his graduation from the Lee University and the Washington University in Virginia. He later earned his doctorate from the Illinois University and joined the Army for a short period. After leaving the army, he became a faculty member at the School of Medicine in the Maryland University, where he taught Histology, Embryology, and Anatomy. He also pursued higher studies in theology and was ordained an Episcopal priest in 1971. Ramsay then left academia and tried his hand at various vocations before accepting a full-time position as a clergyman. He is now retired from full-time ministry and writes fiction.
Ramsay has written a total of four book series, namely, the Jesse Sutherlin Mystery series, the Botswana Mystery series, the Jerusalem Mysteries series, and the Ike Schwartz Mystery series. He has also written several standalone novels. Ramsay's books are known for their mystery plots, which are set in Botswana and Virginia. His first novel, Artscape, was published by Poisoned Pen Press in 2004. His second novel, Secrets, was published in 2005, and his third novel, Impulse, was cited by Publishers Weekly as one of the one hundred best books of 2006. Ramsay is also an iconographer, an accomplished public speaker, and once hosted a television spot, Prognosis, on the evening news for WMAR-TV, Baltimore. He currently lives in Surprise, Arizona, with his wife and partner, Susan.
