Gae Polisner

Gae Polisner is a renowned author of young adult novels, who has been passionate about reading and writing since childhood. She started by writing poetry and short stories, before eventually selling her first manuscript, The Pull of Gravity, to Farrar, Strauss and Giroux. Polisner practices family law during the day but has always considered herself a writer by calling. She grew up with a deep love for words and stories, often found with her nose in a novel or writing her own verses.

Polisner was born in Vietnam and showcased her activist bent through several verses she penned as a child. As she got older, her writing became more angsty and introspective, leading to the free verse and watercolors that she would later relive in her novel, The Memory of Things. Despite her passion for writing, Polisner never once thought of becoming a professional author until much later in life. She currently resides in Long Island, New York, with her husband, two children, and Charlie, their dog. When she is not writing or practicing law, Polisner enjoys swimming in the open waters of Long Island or in the pool.

Polisner's work has received critical acclaim, with several of her novels being Junior Library Guild Selections and Bank Street Best. Her novel, In Sight of Stars, was particularly well-received, with Booklist awarding it a starred review and describing it as an intense, sometimes graphic, and totally heartbreaking portrait of a character. The novel deals with mental health, family, and recovery, and has been praised for its strong writing and likable protagonist. Polisner's writing has been compared to that of Vincent Van Gogh, with one reviewer describing her as the Vincent Van Gogh of young adult fiction. Her other notable works include The Memory of Things, Seven Clues to Home, and Consider the Octopus.
